Reflection 13

Today I had a long day ahead of me and I was rushing, running late. I was nervous, stressed, and going through all this depression. Last night I was in the hospital all night because I popped my right clavicle, and I’m frustrated because I know I have a lot of work and things to do to get prepared for Wednesday. I woke up and got dressed very professionally, and didn’t like my hair at all. I already had all the drinks, food, and candy I was suppose to buy for my students, because of the succeeded scrapbooks, I had promised them our own little party during family time. I bought them a 12 can box of soda, which works perfectly for 10 students, and two teachers. I bought three big bags of chips, chocolate, and blow pops. I had everything in my trunk so I went to wheeler and ran up to that office. In the office I got all my tings organized and I help get things ready for SAS. After an hour Rameka and I both drove to my school and go to the Senior Internship Luncheon. That was why I was all dressed up, and I was nervous because I didn’t know how things were going to go. We arrived, and Rameka seemed to know a lot of people, and the place was decorated fabulous. It was very elegant and nice, all the seniors were dressed up and there were a lot of interesting looking people. I sat with my English teacher Ms. A, and she did Summer Bridge, so she and Rameka were talking up a storm the whole time. I was glad that she was just engaged, conversing with a lot of people and everyone was saying hi. The food was great and we had a good time. As soon as it was over it was time to head to SAS, and we left. When we arrived at the Met, we had a lot of things to take out from her car and mine. She had made a cake for each family, and we had materials and snacks to bring inside. I also had to bring in my food and beverages for my family. My feet were killing by that time also because I had on my high heels. When students began to arrive, I took them outside, where they wanted to be to play. After everyone was at SAS, we had our ASM (All School Meeting), and then we departed to our family time. During our family time, the 8thgraders and teachers filled out two surveys, 9th grade wills, and Thank you card. We had a bag that had everyone in that family’s name in it, someone had to pick out of it and whom ever classmate or teacher you got, your thank you card goes to. It was so nice and creative because students were writing something special, a note alongside, and coloring it. After family time, everyone had to go back out and eat their cake, talk, have fun, take pictures, etc. SAS was over, and at the very end as a community we talked about everyone’s feelings and thoughts about Summer Bridge. It was really amazing some of things that students and teachers said. I wanted to share something myself, being part of the program for a year and all but I was too nervous. After that was over, we said our goodbyes, but we knew that we would see each other one last time at graduation. That’s where we are all going to cry together, tears of happiness. I love Summer bridge, and I’m grateful and thankful that I had the opportunity to do this program, and also for my internship so I can share with everyone my experience, hard work, dedication, and also how special the program really is.

Reflection 12

It is the second to last day of internship, and I can already feel everything coming to an ending. The part that I’m happy about is everything finishing, being over, and having that great relief feeling of accomplishment. The part that makes me sad is the people, the fun times, and all the memories. Walking into the office today, knowing what the date was, is what made me just think, “wow, it’s almost over and I can’t believe it? In the office today I organized all my work and quickly wrote observations on my student’s journals. I really didn’t have a pack of load things to do though, because everything’s done, and smoothly lay out. I already knew how the agenda was going to be, and I was excited. When two o’clock came around, I left the office and head on out to school after school. Today was the day of presentations, and my students presented their projects, which was the scrapbooks and my internship project. 7th graders presented within each other outside, and 8thgraders presented within each other outside. I was proud of them and proud of myself, for accomplishing that. After presentations were over and it was time to go, I grab their scrapbooks and explained to them that I needed them for my senior exhibitions, they were worried and made me promise them that I would bring them back to them some way somehow. This Saturday is the last Summer Bridge Saturday, which the theme is LTCIA, leadership, teamwork, and community building in action, and it takes place at the Wheeler farm! I’m excited; I can not wait, to have fun with my kids, play fun activities and games, eat a lot of food and candy, and get surprises. Internship is coming to an ending because after that it’s one more School after school session, and also the last day of internship actually that same day. After that Wednesday, Monday the 8th graders graduate, and I taught 8th graders so it will be my students graduating Summer Bridge. After the graduation all teachers, volunteers, faculty, and administrators are going out to eat for one last time. I know that I’ve been part of the program for only one year, but I feel the sorrow, I honestly think that tears will be coming down my eyes. I would’ve never imagined how much attached I got to Summer bridge, the teachers, students, Rameka, and how much summer bridge changed me and made me become such a better and loving person. Next week it’s over, and I’m happy to graduate and finish internship, but I will miss the summer bridge atmosphere.

Reflection 11

Internship gets more and more exciting as the week goes on. I think it’s getting better and happier, because it’s almost over and everyone is making the best of it. It was a beautiful day outside and I was happy to go to internship, the morning went well for me. I started off by bringing in munchkins to all 3 of the administrators that I work with in the office. It was very warm and sunny, and everyone had bright colors on. I sat down and got a lot of my work done, while I drank my iced coffee from Dunkin Dounts. I worked on my SAS work and agenda for today’s class, and I looked through my students journals, and their under construction scrapbooks. I was really impressed with how much work, some students got done. I was upset with how a few students were really behind in their work. Then I did my summer bridge homework as part of the next summer bridge Saturday planning committee. For the past couple of weeks the planning committee has had a lot of meetings and trainings of how to create this summer bridge Saturday. We’ve come up with a lot of good ideas to plan the day, with the help of each other, and also my supervisor Rameka. We actually have a meeting tomorrow, and hopefully after that meeting we’ll be done planning our SB Saturday for May 9th. After leaving the office, I headed to SAS, with the joy to see my students. I wanted to expect to make today’s class fun, but with less talking, and more work. As soon as it was literacy time I would already have their things laid out for them, and they could get straight to work.

Reflection 10

Every school after school class just keeps getting better and better! I went to the summer bridge office pretty earlier than usual today. At the office I worked on all my summer bridge/Internship work. I began by organizing my agenda for today’s class. Then I worked on my summer bridge Saturday work since I’m part of May month’s planning committee. That means I have a huge theme, lesson plan, agenda, and basically create a whole day for the students, with the help of three other summer bridge Saturday teachers. After leaving the office, I head to SAS. I was very excited to see my students, after a long two weeks! We had a great class today; everyone did their work, and worked really hard on their scrapbooks. I felt proud at the fact that they were so into it, because it’s theirs, they want it took the best, and they want to show and improve their creative skills. Some are still not done with their scrapbooks, so they’re going to need some time to finish for next class session. Even though, we are still going to hopefully have our family party that I told them I would have for them, and it was my treat to them for working so hard, and doing their best job on the projects.

Reflection 9

Internship has been going great for me; I love every minute of it! Unfortunately, today was the last day until the 22nd because it’s spring break vacation. In March it was Wheeler School’s Spring break vacation, which also means summer bridge office closed. That’s why there wasn’t any school after school or internship at the office for me. It’s spring break vacation for my school and all summer bridge students. It will only be a week and a half; I’ll be leaving to Virginia Beach with my senior class. That’s why today I had a wonderful SAS class, and my goal was to make the best of it. Its awesome watching my students interacting, engaging, and being motivated to do their work. This is something I hope we accomplish, because it’s something that I have been working on for a long time. The most difficult times doing this was all the writing that had to be done first. Because there were days they didn’t want to write or participate. I’m glad that’s over with, and now it’s the fun time, and I can’t wait for them to see what they’ll be rewarded with at the end.
