Reflection #2

Today was my second day of my internship in the wheeler office. I arrived and began working on my summer bridge (also internship) SAS work lesson plan for my students. Just working on what I was going to say on how I was going to present them the new final project I have for them to do from now until SAS finishes, which is may. After I was done working with that, I watched my internship advisor go over her e-mails also, and then we worked on my exhibition/ internship outline. It’s basically a process plan that we are organizing, that is preparing me for my exhibition. She gives me questions, I explain them and break them down, and those questions follow up with more questions. It’s really interesting because it makes me feel ahead and on top my game. We write down all the information we have, and write down all notes. I take all my notes, organize them together, look at them, and checked to see what I can edit, fix, or change. After being done in the office, we head over to the next part of my internship which is school after school (SAS), where I teach literacy to eighth grade students, and my internship advisor is the program director. SAS was once again a success, because I introduce the project to them, and they really liked the idea, they were excited. I started off by explaining the project to them, and letting them know what materials and work they will need for it, how creative it’s going to be, what it will help them improve and work on, all the sections and topics to it, how I will give them a reward for their accomplishments, and how they will present it in front of all Summer bridge on the very last day of school after school. The must’ve been the only part they didn’t like, was presenting in front of everyone besides their own family. Other than that they really like the project and the ideas, and the surprise I will have for them at the end. I am also very excited about this, because I’ve been working really hard with my master teacher on it, and I feel really good about its outcome. Then I passed out journals to them, where they will be writing all of their work in, all based on the project. We started working on the first section, which was about their past, childhood, how they grew up or anything internship that they can remember and want to share. For a mini-lesson I did an example of a paragraph on the board. We also did bullet points of things I do not want to see in their paragraphs, and what they will be editing mostly. Then I gave them a couple of minutes to work on their first paragraph on their own, so we could share it as a class at the end of the session. I heard mostly everyone’s, and they were really amazing. I feel like their writing showed a lot of feeling, and they were clear. What I like the most is that everyone started off with a different first sentence, and all paragraphs were unique. I can’t wait for the next SAS, so we can continue the process, and work our way up to making that scrapbook. When the session was over, my team teacher had candy for the students. When they were dismissed, all teachers had a debrief meeting about the day, and I was ecstatic to share how great my day went with the students.
